As a side note, the final concert at the Virginia Beach Dome was on June 30, 1993. Hitmakers Three Dog Night were the headliner with local group The Stingrays opening.

We’ll open the 2025 Veer Music Awards with the reunited Stingrays performing the tune “Celebrate” from Three Dog Night.

Another note of history: Legendary country singer Patsy Cline was booked by WCMS to perform a radio showcase at The Dome on November 12, 1961. As the late DJ Joe Hoppel once explained, Patsy had missed her flight and had to charter a private flight.

She arrived late, but the opening act — Ray Price Band — remained on stage entertaining the crowd. They were also her backing band.

“Patsy Cline literally got out of the car and walked straight onto the stage,” Hoppel explained.

Her short set included the song “Crazy.” It was the first time she had performed it live. Playing guitar in the Ray Price Band was a relative unknown my the name of Willie Nelson. Nelson penned “Crazy.”

In other words, Patsy Cline, with Willie Nelson at her side, debuted “Crazy” at The Dome. How cool is that?

Nominees will be announced the last week of December. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for announcements.
