(Businessmen and community activists Robert Roman & Claus Ihlemann of Decorum are part of what makes Ghent a great place)

Ghent in Norfolk, Virginia, was named one of this year’s 15 Great Places by the American Planning Association. As one of the 2018 Great Neighborhoods, Ghent serves as a model for collaboration and community benefit for other neighborhoods around the country.

Ghent was selected for their diverse community addressing the reality of sea level rise, striving toward social and environmental resilience, and status as one of the most beloved neighborhoods in the community. Additional detail is included in the press release attached here. Through the 2018 Great Places, the American Planning Association honors the work of great planners and communities committed to active and thriving neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces. Designees are selected annually and represent the gold standard for a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for the future.

A local celebration honoring this announcement at Hague footbridge at 5:00 p.m.  on October 18, 2018.
