REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS: The Hampton Arts Foundation, in partnership the Kroger Company, will commission a professional artist to create indoor artwork for the new Kroger grocery store located at 1090 West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.
The artwork will be prominently displayed on a wall inside the store as part of the Kroger Company’s commitment to involving artists in beautifying new stores in Virginia and throughout the nation. The artwork will be expected to celebrate the spirit of the community and the unique identity of the Hampton neighborhood and its surroundings.
The artwork will be mounted on panels of durable material that can be attached to the wall. The wall space for the artwork is to be 15 feet wide x 8 feet high. The ultimate artwork can fit that size or be a series of panels or units with breaks between or have an irregular shape. It cannot be deeper from the wall than 4 inches.
ELIGIBILITY: This opportunity is open to professional artists in the Coastal Virginia region with the ability to produce exemplary large-scale art.

- A current resume, PDF format no longer than 3 pages.
- Eight (8) images documenting previously completed works that demonstrate the ability to design, create and install large-scale art. Each image must be no larger than 10 MB.
- An annotated information sheet with the title, date, and brief description of each image.
SEMI-FINALIST PROPOSAL AWARD: Up to three artists from the applicant pool will be selected to prepare a conceptual design/drawing of the proposed artwork. Artists chosen for this round will be paid $300 for their proposals.
PROJECT BUDGET: One artist will be awarded a commission of $7,000-$9,000. This amount includes all artist fees and the cost of the design, including fabrication and installation of said panels, and will include transportation and insurance costs to deliver said artwork to the new Kroger Grocery Store located at 1090 West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton, by December 20, 2019.
The general on-site contractor of the new Kroger grocery store, with the guidance of the artist, will perform the installation of said artwork.
